More than 30,000 CitiPower and Powercor customers have a private overhead electric line on their property. These usually run between existing electricity lines on public roadways to a premises on a private property, or between different premises on one property – for instance between a house and shed.
CitiPower and Powercor inspect private overhead electric lines every two and half years free of charge. If a line requires maintenance, vegetation clearing or undergrounding, the owner will be advised.
If a private line requires electrical repairs, a Registered Electrical Contractor must be engaged to carry out the repairs. A Certificate of Electrical Safety must be issued by the contractor once the repairs are completed.
We strongly recommend that you engage a professional tree feller to clear private overhead electric lines of vegetation. Contact between trees and power lines can be fatal.
